Behold the latest addition to the Nobu empire: a sleek, sexy Xanadu of Nobu Matsuhisa’s artful, modern Japanese cuisine at its most decadent. If you’re so fortunate as to snag a reservation (and have enough clout to request a specific table), you can choose from one of three dining rooms to fit your mood. The high-energy main dining room, which houses the sushi bar, is the see-and-be-seen proscenium, replete with silkworm cocoon fixtures and a shimmering palate of reds and browns. The enclosed patio provides a quieter retreat and woodsier décor, while the atrium with its expansive skylight and pink-floral-on-gray walls offers a blend of the other two energies. Once you’re settled on your scene, choose from cold dishes like the ever-popular yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno or toro tartar with caviar and hot dishes like brick-oven kobe skirt steak or black cod with miso. The old L’Orangerie, which used to occupy this space, will soon be a distant memory, and Nobu, along with nearby newcomers STK and The Hall Brasserie at Palihouse, is reviving this corner of West Hollywood as the hottest dining address in town.
TIPS: For those who come up empty handed after attempts at a reservation, the full menu can be had at the bar (first come, first served).Nobu Los Angeles (Los Angeles Magazine)
The minimalistic design of Nobu makes it feel rather cold; this coming from a lover of all things modern and often "minimalistic". It feels as if they dumped some tables on concrete and called it "Nobu".
