Know something we don't?
With Osteria Mozza, Cube, Angeli Cafe and All’ Angelo, could this neighborhood be the next Little Italy? It’s eminently possible. The restaurant, whose name means “to the angel” in Italian, is the result of the partnering of two Italian-born L.A. dining scene veterans, Stefano Ongaro (waiter and maitre d' at Valentino, Enoteca Drago and Il Grano) and chef Mirko Paderno (Valentino, Dolce). It’s very simple and unfussy in an upscale way, and the food reflects the owners’ mandate that every meal should be a celebration. Of course, any Italian ristorante lives and dies by its pastas, and they serve some good ones: mushroom filled potato tortelli, flat ribbon pasta with lamb ragout and organic sweet peas and ricotta stuffed ravioli. Other standouts include the oven roasted striped bass, breaded pork chops and grilled Hawaiian swordfish, though the menu changes with the seasons. There is a good selection of Italian and New World wines and more than 25 wines by the glass, poured by a high-tech system that ensure each wine is served at the right temperature.
TIPS: The menu doesn’t list the tripes and charcuterie (cold cuts), but you can still order it. A special tasting menu is available for $70 and $95, for five and seven courses respectively. They only serve lunch on Fridays. Also in September All'Angelo opened a Spriz bar at the front of the restaurant where diners can relax with light appetizers (fritto misto, chicken-liver pate, cured Italian meats) and a traditional Italian pre-dinner cocktail or spriz of Prosecco or Champagne.
Did you know? You can share lists of your favorite places and events. Include All' Angelo in your list and it will be added to this page.
