Know something we don't?
Barney's Beanery is the wooden shanty on Santa Monica Blvd. with a fabled rock-and-roll past. Opened in 1927 as a stopover on Route 66, the restaurant/bar gained notoriety in the ’60s when Janis Joplin and The Doors made it a favorite watering hole. Since then, Barney's has expanded to include branches throughout the L.A. area, but the West Hollywood location maintains the biker bar quality that continues to attract folks like Quentin Tarantino (he apparently wrote “Pulp Fiction” in one of the booths). There may be some modern additions — television screens broadcast sports games daily and karaoke is hosted three nights a week — but if you look closely, you can still imagine Jim Morrison getting booted out for urinating on the bar.
