With a hefeweizen and an I.P.A. brewed in-house, Karl Strauss is a bona fide brewery in the midst of Universal Studios’ world of illusion. The earth-toned décor and parabola-shaped bar are among the most understated in the larger-than-life CityWalk setting. Choices like the beer-brined pork chops, drunken shrimp, and “lemon hef chicken” all make delicious use of the San Diego-based mini-chain’s selection of craft beers. There’s also an ample selection of burgers, starters, salads, and seafood to pair with your favorite brew. If you work up a thirst walking the ’Walk, take a seat on the patio, order up a 22-oz. brewer’s pint, and people watch from your perch above the fountain in the CityLoft plaza. You’ll feel like you’re in a European beer garden—until Jessica Simpson blasts over the CityWalk sound system and breaks the spell.
