Gus's Barbecue was an institution for more than 60 years. Then in 2007 two brothers, Chris and John Bicos (whose father founded Pasadena’s Original Tops restaurant), purchased it and gave it an extreme makeover. Today they hope to pay homage to the once divey old diner while re-energizing it for a new generation of barbecue lovers. Gray-blue booths, a pressed tin ceiling and hardwood floors provide the setting for a roster of barbecue that reads like a best-of list from across the country. Memphis-style baby back ribs, St. Louis spare ribs, beer-braised Texas brisket and Carolina-style pulled pork are all smoked it new hickory and Apple Wood smokers. There is also a rotisserie for crisping delicious free-range herb chicken. Don't forget to throw back a signature cocktail at the snazzy bar. A Bluesman Manhattan made with Maker's Mark and Blue Curacao should hit the spot.

Barbecue is wonderful
There are three reasons why I loved my experience at Gus'. First is the decor, it is a diner but with a modern twist, hardwood floors, cool paintings, comfortable seats and a beautiful bar. The next two reasons why I loved this place are the chicken sandwich and the coleslaw....
We couldn't get enough of their BBQ ribs and the sandwiches. The service was great.
