Named for owner and blues aficionado Steve Rakoczy (rah-ko’-zee), Cozy’s delivers on the snug and comfy connotation of its name. This is the one of the area’s top blues clubs, and the touring stars and local regulars who make the scene here rival any Sunset Strip marquee, yet the carpet is well-worn and the pool room’s clunky couches could have been in your parents’ basement. With its no-frills spirit, Cozy’s conjures an old Memphis blues joint by focusing on what it does best: high-energy blues and R&B jams and a menu of bar favorites with a Southern flair. Nibble on fried okra in the showroom/bar area during the night’s first set or settle into a 10 oz. Albert King Prime Rib in the adjacent dining room by the third. Audience participation is encouraged on “Non-Hokey Karaoke” Sundays and “All-Star Blues Jam” Mondays, when anyone can get up to sing or play the blues. As you can imagine, the modest stage gets pretty cozy.
