There’s no shortage of great hamburger stands in Los Angeles, but the Counter may be the best of them all. While many restaurants will serve you a burger any way you like it, few go to the extremes that the Counter does. After all, how many places can offer a turkey burger with gruyere cheese, dried cranberries, roasted red peppers and apricot sauce on an English muffin? The Counter can without even blinking. Its menu offers so many different toppings that you can go every day for the rest of your life and never have the same burger twice (okay, maybe twice). Its sweet potato fries, coupled with a horseradish sauce, are also a major draw and its shakes are so thick you need a spoon to finish one. The only downside to the Counter is that it’s always crowded. Parking, subsequently, is tough and service isn’t always speedy. Still, it’s worth the effort.
