About
Organic, vegan and with hardly any sugar on the premises (those cupcakes don’t frost themselves), RFD offers a real alternative to the nearby Third Street Promenade. Sure, patrons wander over after a nearby yoga class, but truthfully, the loyal regulars (who have been known to hail from as far away as Orange County) come more for the cuisine than the healthy. To wit, reubens and tacos are as popular as the macrobiotic plate (a mix of grains plus sea- and land-veggies, and a press salad, precisely portioned for proper digestion). Two rotating specials— one weekly, one monthly— keep the menu novel, as do a constant influx of fresh juices. Two levels of mood-lit dining once you get inside, but waits are common, so don’t plan on it if in a hurry.
