Not quite what you'd expect from the name, L.A. Farm is a bastion of fine, French-infused California cuisine with a bent toward wild game. The chopped salad with vegetables comes drizzled in aged balsamic and pungent chunks of roquefort, while the house-smoked salmon is as smooth as mousse and served against warmly toasted brioche. More "gamey" Farm options include free-range chicken, roasted lamb, venison tenderloin in cinnamon sauce, and a New York steak topped with brandy and peppercorn. Expect surprising specials, including the Sunday sushi entree or Wednesday fish and chips. Napa rules the wine list, with some French Rhone and Bordeaux varieties starting at around $30 and up. The Farm also offers a several-course prix fixe dinner, as well as tours of its private wine cellar.
