With eight grand and ancient-looking gates lining the walls of the ostentatiously decorated dining area, Gate of India is aptly named. Well-known for its all-you-can-eat lunch buffet—available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. only—Gate of India earns its “excellent” quote from Zagat Guide at dinner time, when the food is prepared to order and served up fresh. A variety of curries dominate the menu and all cost either $13.99 for the chicken, $14.99 for the lamb or beef, or $16.99 for the fish or shrimp. For a more complete food pyramid, try any vegetable dish in the house—all are $9.99—and wash it down with a traditional mango lassi for $3.99, or an equally traditional Kingfisher beer for $4.50.
