Opened in 1926 as an exclusive members-only beach resort, Casa Del Mar fell on hard times. After stints as a troop barracks an a drug rehab center, a $60 million renovation in 1999 saved some of the original tile work, which now frames the elliptical staircases in the entrance lobby.
