Between the exposed brick walls of this ultra-hip lounge lies a mad mix of scenesters looking to see and be seen. Some dance, some just watch. Lounge 217 is, after all, a lounge. Couples who can't keep their hands off one another snuggle on the sleek sofas, while singles sweat it out on the dance floor to a mix of dance, house and hip-hop tunes.
The lounge, located around the corner from the Third Street Promenade, is decorated with soft industrial and minimalist architecture: velvet cushions and couches, rusted copper candle holders and plain wood coffee tables. This place is for the truly with-it scenester. Clubgoers don stylish clothes and must adhere to the club's dress code -- no sneakers, hats or sleeveless shirts. Lounge 217 was hip to the no-smoking trend long before it came law when it provided a smoking room in the back that included a private bar, where smoking denizens today can still puff away all they want, leaving the rest of the club smoke-free. -- Tracy Johnson
