Gavin Rossdale's best of L.A.

Know something we don't?
This is a photography gallery that's designed, in part, to feel like a home. Outside, there's the garish yellow gallery signs, but inside, it's a different, more serene, story. A visitor enters the gallery into an intentionally narrow space. Here, half of the featured artist's show is presented. (The other half is in a larger room to the right). After turning left, the visitor enters into a library/living room/salon sort of space. There is carpeting, a wood ceiling and everywhere, books both for reference and for sale. Up on the "Project Wall" are the works of emerging artists.
Photographers exhibited here include Paul Caponigro, Keith Carter, Willy Ronis, Lillian Bassman, Berenice Abbott, Weegee, Ansel Adams and Henri Cartier-Bresson. The majority of works are in black and white.
Visiting
The gallery is located in building A7 of Santa Monica's Bergamot Station, an eight-acre complex that houses more than 30 of the city's most prominent arts institutions. Bergamot Station is located at 2525 Michigan Ave., which is at the very end of the street. Hours of operation are Tuesdays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (Some galleries have slightly different hours, so be sure to call ahead.) Free parking is available for all visitors; just follow the signs.
Dining and entertainment
For a convenient lunch spot, you won't do better than The Gallery Café, located in building A3 near the entrance to Bergamot Station. The menu specials change daily, offering a variety of food and beverages. To find other restaurants, you'll have to drive a short distance from Bergamot Station. Café Bizou is a popular California-French bistro chain that serves upscale cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere. L.A. Farm is another popular local restaurant that's ideal for lunch or brunch, offering French cuisine at moderate prices.
