If there are eight wonders of the virtual world, surely this Santa Monica site is one of them. Think of it as M.I.T. Media Lab West--only with better coffee.
Located in the 18th Street Santa Monica Arts colony, this breezy warehouse-style space brims with monitors, computers, lights and cameras. Most of the time, it's closed to the public. In fact, the coffeehouse part is only open during events. The place is like a classy concessions stand, but for the sort of theater you've never imagined: telecollaborative music, telecollaborative dance and telecollaborative theater.
It's not just hype, it's art. And, it's the future. There is some food and plenty of free parking. Call for public hours.
