About
The Easter Seals Society opened a museum in 1989 specifically with children in mind. The goal of A Special Place Hands-on Children's Museum in the Inland Empire, according to one volunteer, is to offer inexpensive entertainment to children while teaching tolerance and disability awareness. The preschoolers through fifth-graders who visit can dress up in police, firefighting and military uniforms, but at the same time get exposure to an incubator, X-ray machine, crutches, braces and wheelchairs. There are puppet shows, a "shadow theater" and live birds, turtles and guinea pigs to pet. It's also a place where children with disabilities can play along with other kids.
