Located at the corner of Sunset & Crescent Heights, SBE's newest venture is designed to make a statement. After a multimillion-dollar renovation, the former home of nightclub Privilege is now XIV, a chateau-style restaurant designed by Philippe Starck and headed up by executive chef Michael Mina whose mini-empire of restaurants includes the Michelin two-star Michael Mina in San Francisco and Stonehill Tavern in Dana Point. The cuisine is "modern American" and the angle is "social dining." The small plates concept gets much smaller with a design-your-own-tasting-menu idea that deconstructs Mina's signature "trio" menus -- three tiny, single-themed dishes served on one plate.
