Nostalgia junkies will love Traxx Restaurant, located inside the historic Union Station on the eastern rind of downtown. The décor, defined by an architectural fusion of Spanish Colonial, Art Deco and streamlined modern architecture, has been seen in dozens of films and television shows through the decades. One of the eateries that has anchored the slow-but-sure downtown rejuvenation, Traxx has been dishing out memorable cuisine to travelers and Eastsiders since 1997 – long before ‘loft living’ became a hot phrase. The quiet, dimly-lit dining room is a great place to watch the hustle and bustle of a metropolitan train station while sipping the bar’s signature cocktail, the Traxx martini. Meat eaters will enjoy the wild Alaskan king salmon with melted leeks and violet mustard beurre blanc. Vegetarians will delight in the spice-crusted tofu steak with pea shoot tendrils, crispy fried onions and garlic ponzu.
