Trattoria Tre Venezie

Upon arriving at Tre Venezie, you may feel more like you’re entering your grandmother’s living room than a café in Verona, but the food in this postage-stamp-sized trattoria couldn’t be more authentic to the northeastern Italian region from which it takes its name. You’ll be seated amongst bookshelves filled with cookbooks, family pictures, and knickknacks. Nevermind the clutter: you’ve got a formidable wine list (most selections from the Tre Venezie area) to wade through. Start with the house specialty baccalá mantecato (salt cod and polenta with garlic, parsley, fennel, and tomato), then move on to one of the fresh pastas like casunziei all’ampezzana, beet filled ravioli in brown butter and poppy seeds. Finish with homemade strudel (a sign of the Austro-Hungarian influence in the region) and a glass of one of their 80-plus grappas. You won’t miss red sauce one bit (eat your hearts out, Buca Di Beppo and Mi Piace).
