Know something we don't?
30-year sushi vet (and former chef at Azuma in New York) Toshihiko Seki promises simple, yet perfectly executed classics at this new modest sushi restaurant such as zuke maguro, amaebi, hamachi, and more. Don’t expect exotic creations that push the envelope here; Toshi’s take on sushi seems to be more reverential than anything else. But this restaurant fills a badly needed void on 1st street for a quick and easy spot to snack on fresh maguro. The sushi bar itself is quite small, with less than 10 seats available. But the restaurant portion of 359 E. 1st. should accomodate up to 25 people, with several small tables. The restaurant alreaday has a liquor licence, and will carry several brands of sake, in addittion to imported Japanese beers such as Ebisu. Seki was most recently heading up a small catering company, so it’s likely many in the area are already familiar with his work (he still runs the catering company, sushicateringtoshi.com, on the side). The restaurant is small, well-lit and will likely fill up quickly on weekend evenings. Look for the new restaurant to be open seven days a week (from now until the end of the year anyway, mangers say....days open may change in Janurary).

I love Toshi Sushi! It is a cute, little restaurant located in the Little Tokyo. Very friendly service but kinda slow. Maybe there was only one waitress...

Toshi Sushi is the best sushi I can find in downtown Los Angeles, after trying half a dozen places. Though I find it a little more expensive then I'm used...
