About

Featuring a floor-to-ceiling view of the Kyoto Grand Hotel’s lush garden, Thousand Cranes is easily the most atmospheric eatery in the building. A sprawling pond laps against the glass, casting dappled shadows on the restaurant ceiling. The open, airy dining room consists of rough stone floors, Japanese screens, and potted plants, creating a calm atmosphere that provides a welcome respite from the hustle of downtown. The best time to visit is at night, when the lights are dimmed and soft yellow footlights illuminate the garden. All that luscious atmosphere comes with a price, however. The nine-course Kaiseki dinner costs $59 per person. The shabu shabu and sukiyaki dinners are $52 per person. Even the sushi bar dinner special goes for $65. It’s worth it if you have the cash. Otherwise, the Azalea restaurant downstairs provides more affordable and less-atmospheric options.
