Of the food choices in the lobby of the Wilshire Grand Hotel, Seoul Jung is definitely one of the most exotic. A sparsely decorated foyer leads into a circular dining area decorated with Korean art and sculpture. The vibe is bright and modern, with mint green booths, marble-topped tables and a polished wood floor. The food is spicy and full-bodied and the focus is on marinated meats for the tabletop barbecues that are the restaurant’s signature cooking tool. All Korean barbecue items are served with side dishes, rice, soup and barbecue dipping sauce. The kal bi, or tender marinated boneless short ribs, is a regular crowd pleaser. The oh saek gui, thinly slices beef marinated in the special house sauce, is also popular. Noodle-based specialties are also recommended: the kuk soo jun gol, a noodle casserole with assorted fresh vegetables and thinly sliced rib eye steak served in broth, is by far the most ordered.
