Mel’s Drive-In has been the most dependable diner for night crawlers and early risers since before it was Mel’s, when it was the inimitable Ben Frank’s Coffee Shop. Open 24 hours, the West Hollywood location sees its share of tourists, local regulars and weary clubgoers searching for some starch to carry them through the ride home – and wanting to experience one of the last examples of Googie architecture left in L.A. During the day, the outdoor patio is a great place to sit and watch shoppers heading towards Sunset Plaza. After dark, Mel’s welcomes a nightly parade of characters throughout the evening, culminating in the crunch after 2 a.m. when the clubs let out. The menu is standard diner fare: burgers, desserts and breakfast served all day.
