About
Located at the mouth of historic Olvera St., facing the plaza, La Luz Del Dia is an atmospheric and affordable option for downtown Mexican food. An outside dining patio is screened from pedestrians by flowering bougainvillea. A stuffed donkey near the main entrance provides photo opportunities for tourists and amusement for locals. Inside, tile floors and murals of Mexico define the décor. Waitresses bustle about in colorful folk dresses. Lines for the order counter typically stretch out to the door during lunchtime, when the three dining rooms are likely to be jam-packed with patrons. It’s no wonder, since the combo plates hover around $5 a pop. Beef stew, tostada, rice and beans are a typical, no-frills offering. A la carte items are even cheaper, with tacos being the most popular item. Fish Taco Monday is well worth checking out. And don’t forget to give the taco salad a shot.
