Given the stiff prices you normally have to pay for their sushi, happy hour is the time to try Hama. It’s available Monday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and offers 50% off a selection of their menu. The restaurant itself is split into two sections: if you’re going to sit inside at the sushi bar, you should definitely make a reservation to avoid a long wait. It’s considerably easier to get a seat at the outdoor bar where surf films are projected on a giant screen in one corner. Strangely enough, the rolling waves are a perfect accompaniment to some of the freshest fish on the Westside. Whether you’re sitting inside or outside, though, the atmosphere at Hama is loud and frenetic. The service can sometimes be spotty so patience is a necessary virtue most nights. Street parking is usually easy to find, but valet is available if you prefer.
