Bollywood films may be famous for their epic song and dance numbers, but the Bollywood Café refrains from any of that flash and panache. Instead, it offers a small, understated dining room and homespun Indian dishes. Moving the focus away from curry, the café emphasizes biryani, tandoori, and a variety of chicken, seafood, lamb, and vegetarian dishes. All selections can be customized for spiciness; cool raita and mango lassi extinguish any fires. The lunch special is among the best deals around, starting at $5.95 for entrees served with rice and naan. It’s popular with the local studio crowd who, like their counterparts in Mumbai, are trying to keep their lavish productions on budget.
