About
A gourmet restaurant with linen-bedecked tables, cream-colored walls and a genteel atmosphere, Avenue is the kind of eatery with no dollar signs or decimal points on the menu. Created by chef-owner Christian Schaffer, the menu is ostensibly French but clearly takes liberties with its Gallic influences. Seared foie gras is on the menu for 16—no currency involved, remember—but so is the New Zealand rack of lamb for 29, and the Kobe rib eye for 32. The wines are also all over the map, from a glass of Napa Valley chardonnay for 75, to a flute of French champagne for 65, to a glass of South Australian Muscat for 8. Enjoy a little of everything, then pay with pennies or pesos, or better yet, good intentions. Hey, it’s worth a shot.
