My Favorite Weekend: Andrew Zimmern
Picks by Andrew_Zimmern
Know something we don't?

AFTER the din of the restaurant last night, Lucques is heaven. No raucous birthday parties or pounding heavy-metal soundtrack. No standing around waiting for our...
With its classic décor and fresh, California cuisine, Lucques is a quintessential L.A. dining experience. The atmosphere is as warm as the La Brea Bakery bread that arrives before every meal. Brick walls and leather booths fill the interior; the garden patio consists of foliage and white linen tables. Owners Suzanne Goin (A.O.C.) and Caroline Styne pride themselves on Lucques’ flavorful, memorable menu. Lunch items include a beluga lentil soup and grilled lamb skewer with Swiss chard bread. Dinner offers more seafood options and an assortment of meat dishes like the braised short ribs and the slow-roasted Niman Ranch pork. Sundays are the busiest nights because of Goin’s famous $40 per person prix fixe Sunday Supper menu, a superb deal for a three-course meal. After nearly a decade, Lucques shines not only on this stretch of Melrose sandwiched between Ago and Taste on Melrose, but also in the Los Angeles dining scene as a whole.
TIPS: Weekend reservations fill up to two weeks in advance, so plan ahead. Remember that on Sundays, only the Sunday Supper menu is available.
Show up after 10 and you should get a table in the back patio. Make sure you try their steak frites from their bar menu.
If you like a quaint, ski lodge feeling vibe this is your spot. I love the cod fish with pea tendrils.
