Zona Rosa evokes a bustling café in Mexico City, full of folk art in bright primary colors and wrought iron tables and chairs. Latin-inspired drinks are the main draw here, like the Zona Rosa cappuccino laced with cinnamon-spiced Mexican chocolate and smoothies blended with Jumex nectar juices. Unfortunately, the pan dulce, or pastries, don’t go much beyond standard muffins and croissants. When the weather is warm, take your bounty to one of the tables out front and enjoy people watching—the café is sandwiched between the Pasadena Playhouse and Laemmle Theatres, so there’s lots of foot traffic. On Thursdays in summer, Zona Rosa hosts live Latin bands outside in the alley. On cooler days, cozy up in the second floor lounge. Furnished with mismatched vintage couches, it’s as comfortable as your own living room and packed on weekends with students. Just remember the sombreros are wall art—not for wearing.
