This 42-year-old Newport Beach institution distinguishes itself with a party hearty atmosphere and an actual restaurant-side dock that enables boaters to drop anchor and immediately get their drink on. In keeping with this handy feature, Woody’s offers a “dockside menu” along with its traditional take-out menu. There’s a rustic rowboat on the roof and an iconic blue-whale sign out front. The interior is delightfully run down and painted in inviting maroon and teal hues. Live music—usually a bluesy house-type band--can be heard until 2 am on weekends; but beware the occasional drunken dancer. The menu is straight-up steaks and seafood: filet mignon with Maui onion straws ($26.95), fish and chips ($11.95), red snapper ($13.95). Remember: friends don’t let friends sail drunk.
