Not a place for the gluten intolerant, Wheatberry bakery and café turns out over a dozen kinds of breads made on site three times daily, from the pungent sourdough batard to the sweet pan de mie with raisins. On the outside, the café may look like a chain soup and sandwich place below an office building, but inside you’re greeted with warm buttery walls and chalkboards brimming with selections made from scratch. Sandwiches, panini, and melts are all crafted with the fresh breads, like the popular roast beef and blue cheese on ciabatta. For the carb averse, there are hot soups and a create-your-own salad bar. But it seems a shame to walk in the door if you can’t partake in anything from the pastry display case, including red velvet cupcakes, sweet and savory croissants, brownies, and cakes. A full menu of espresso drinks and free Wi-Fi keeps the laptop set swilling, typing, and grazing for hours.
