Stylish and understated, Vermont is one of the tonier dining options on Los Feliz’s popular Hillhurst-Vermont corridor. The menu features contemporary American cuisine consisting of mostly seafood and meat with a few homemade pasta dishes, and it changes with the seasons so you’re assured variety. The interior is pale and elegant, not to mention leafy due to the large potted palms. While the food might not dazzle you, the ever-popular pepper steak and Michael’s “favorite” salad do deserve special mentions. The service is friendly and unpretentious, and the owner – the aforementioned Michael – can often be seen mingling and chatting with diners.
TIPS: The dim lighting conjures romance so it’s a good place to take a date, or there’s always the adjacent bar-lounge. Open until 1 am, it fills up with an attractive crowd who come for the tasty cocktails and a DJ spins dance music on Fridays and Saturdays. Perfect for working off that famed apple tart. Not in the mood for a DJ? Head across the street for French bistro fare at Mes Amis.
