Tuna Town

It’s dark and loud in Tuna Town, an authentic rock-and-roll sushi bar in a community better known for its laid-back beach scene. The one-of-a-kind restaurant has flourished in downtown Huntington Beach, attracting a steady stream of fun-loving eaters, drinkers and musicians. It’s owned by Shannon Silvera, ex-wife of Korn rocker David Silvera. Silvera’s young staff has the green light to blast alt-rock, reggae or whatever suits their fancy (though it does get too loud for the boss’ ears sometimes, so Silvera will give the signal to turn it down). Local rockers and actors mingle with diners at the sushi bar or the teppan tables, where your food is grilled to order, Benihana-style. For added entertainment, feast your eyes on the two jellyfish tanks, accented with lights that change colors and turn the jellies into floating glowballs. Or just feast your eyes on your own table, which will be set ablaze if you order the specialty flaming tuna roll. (That’s the dish that’s sizzles, not your actual table).
