Samurai Sam’s Teriyaki Grill

Touted as a healthy fast-food alternative, Samurai Sam’s serves Asian-inspired “Chop-chop” or teriyaki bowls of grilled meat, marinated vegetables and steamed rice. The menu revolves around two choices: The teriyaki chicken bowl or the yaki soba bowl (basically the same as the teriyaki bowl except that rice is replaced by wok-stirred noodles.) Despite its healthy tendencies, Samurai Sam’s is a fast food joint at heart with offerings such as the “Samurai Meal Deal,” which includes two of everything -- teriyaki bowls, sides (egg rolls, salads and the mysteriously named “crab puffs”) and drinks -- for $9.99. The atmosphere does not stray from the fast-food norm (order at one counter, pick up at another, etc.) and the crowd skews towards the lunching office worker variety. During a recent visit, there wasn’t a single samurai in sight.
