Riordan’s Tavern is the upscale twin of its next-door neighbor The Original Pantry Café. Former L.A. Mayor Richard Riordan owns both, but they couldn’t be more different in character and approach. While the Pantry is worn smooth with age like a river stone, Riordan’s Tavern is sleek, new and formal. Exposed brick walls, dark wood booths and tables and ambient overhead lighting define the small, cozy space. Sports paraphernalia adorns the walls, a reminder of the proximity of the Staples Center, a popular destination both before and after visiting the Pantry and the Tavern. The menu is simple, featuring a total of 10 dinner items. Fine cuts of meat are the specialty, including the aged New York steak, marinated chicken or salmon and the house specialty, cold-water Australian lobster tail. The bar offers a full array of libations. Salads, appetizers and finger foods are available for lighter appetites.
