If the crowds hanging out at Pazzo on any given afternoon or evening are any indication, Silver Lake has longed for a neighborhood gelato shop and café for time immemorial. The place caters to the bed-head set but attracts plenty of families with its farmers market-fresh gelato in rich, delicate flavors like creamy pistachio, mango and chocolate martini. The shop’s interior is tiny; the real fun is to be had at one of the many sidewalk tables scattered out front. Sometimes Pazzo’s employees blast loud, annoying music out of the patio speakers—if you are unlucky enough to be hanging out with your book when that happens you’d do well to make a stealthy escape.

 TIPS: Pre-dessert dining abounds on this bustling stretch of Sunset Blvd. Town and Country and Alegria are two nearby favorites.
