Mariasol

A two-story colossus on the far end of the Santa Monica Pier, Mariasol serves up “a taste of Mexico” in a festive, wood-planked and high-raftered environment gaily festooned with bright southwestern colors, countless hanging plants and a whole panoply of Central American paraphernalia. The location is sublime and Mariasol takes full advantage: A wishing “well” in the center of the restaurant offers a view of the waves below; the eastern patio offers up the coastline and a nice fire-pit; the expansive western patio offers a view of the Pacific; and inside, sun pours in through ample windows. A view of the menu offers more oceanic delights—ceviche for $11.95, shrimp for $12.95 plus grilled halibut, salmon, tilapia, and “pescado Veracruz” for $14.95 to $17.95. Mexican favorites like enchiladas, carne asada, soft-shell tacos, chile rellenos, carnitas, and fajitas round out the menu, priced between $12 and $18. There are other sweet delights to cap off your entrée, from $4 flan or $5 fried ice cream to $5 beer, $7.50 margaritas or any number of tropical drinks from Mariasol’s fully stocked bar.
