Late at night, lines will often snake down Broadway as the young and barely-dressed wait to mingle inside Ma’Kai. Unlike many hot clubs, though, Ma’Kai is actually quite nice to go to during normal hours. Great care has obviously gone into the preparation of the Pacific Rim-inflected menu. The miso-marinated steak and asparagus skewers, and the lobster dynamite roll, are two stand-outs that must be tried. Inside, a tiki-style bar serves expensive, strong cocktails that are best enjoyed at the outdoor fire pit. The Monday Happy Hour is definitely the time to hit Ma’Kai for the first time. It lasts from 4 p.m. to—believe it—midnight (though food prices are only good till 7 p.m.). As mentioned earlier, the crowd can get very hot and sweaty late at night. The music doesn’t get too loud, though, so it is possible to meet people. Park at the lot on 3rd Street and Broadway to save on valet.
