This South Bay restaurant in a landmark bank building (circa 1906) serves Italian cuisine as outsized and robust as a Pavarotti solo. The historic interior boasts Art Deco chandeliers, ornate plaster ceilings supported by massive marble columns and some modern touches, including large abstract paintings and a glass-ensconced kitchen. True to the restaurant’s name, a tuxedoed tenor wanders among tables dressed in white linen, belting out arias. The menu offers a wealth of sophisticated dishes, including veal chops and homemade raviolis. L'Opera's acclaimed 63-page wine list represents all major Italian appellations and offers everything from modestly priced Chiantis to prestigious Gaja Barbarescos.
