Kabuki Japanese Restaurant

Kabuki has jettisoned the Asian décor and music that typify Japanese/sushi restaurants in favor of exposed brick and clubby rock/pop. Though it’s a chain, Kabuki has a strong presence in the landscape of Old Town, perhaps because of its accessible atmosphere and pedestrian-friendly location just below The Melting Pot and JJ Steakhouse. The quality of the sushi may not rival spots like Sushi Roku and Japon Bistro, but it’s certainly crowd-pleasing, as evidenced by the long waits on weekends. The frequently updated menu includes all manner of sushi, sashimi, rolls, udon, teriyaki, and tempura. Especially appealing (and cost effective) are the “boat” lunches and dinners. If you’re out on a date, try the “Love Boat” for two and feast on chicken teriyaki, B.B.Q. beef ribs, shrimp and vegetable tempura, gyoza dumpling, broiled mussel, California roll, and seasonal fruit, all accompanied by soup, salad, and rice for $17.95 per person.
