Every community on Earth seems to have a local Irish pub and—blessed as it is with a strand address and a commanding view of the Pacific—Hennessey’s Tavern is Hermosa Beach’s favorite. Appropriately big on Gaelic cuisine, this two-story, indoor-outdoor bar and restaurant offers affordable corned beef hash and eggs for breakfast, corned beef and cabbage after 5 p.m. and fish and chips and shepherd’s pie all day long, but still has plenty of Mexican, all-American, and West Coast menu options to meet your non-Celtic needs. And the kitchen stays open almost as long as the bar, with hot food served until 12:30 a.m. and cold food until 1. Of course, plenty of folks just come for a drink, which goes double for the 4 to 7 p.m. happy hour, Monday through Friday. Your best bets are “Two-Timin’” Tuesdays, when breakfasts and burgers are served two for the price of one, and “Luck O’ The Irish” Wednesdays, when calling a coin toss means your Irish entrée is on the house.
