Green Street Tavern declares itself “a restaurant created for social intimacy,” and with just 30 seats tucked into a snug candlelit setting, it doesn’t disappoint. This small-scale focus allows the kitchen to concentrate on a tight California menu with European flair. Seasonally changed selections include a Spanish sampler of marinated chicken, seafood paella, and Spanish chorizo; potato gnocchi with wild mushrooms, grilled asparagus, and truffles; and a duo of beef comprised of Merlot braised short ribs and grilled rib eye. All meat, fish, and poultry are locally grown, and vegetables are organic. Like the menu, the beer and wine list is equally tidy; the “less is more” approach yields a terse but diverse selection of high quality bottles. With only five seats, the bar area does little to take away from the intimacy of this Green Street gem.
