About
Go ahead, have some veggies with Krishna.
Popular food: Dishes are all meatless, dairy-free and change daily -- subji (Indian-style veggies and curry) and dal (lentil split pea soup with curry), basmati rice, minestrone soup; lasagna, burritos, tofu, burgers.
Unique food: Nut loaf (veggie meat loaf).
Drinks: Fresh-squeezed carrot, beat or celery juices, China Cola natural sodas, Snapple.
Seating: Lots of '70s-style booths and tables.
Ambience: Anyone and everyone: hard-core vegans from Venice, Hare Krishnas from the local area, West L.A. families, college students.
Extras/Notes: Contrary to popular belief, Govinda's is not solely for the Hare Krishna community. It is open to anyone with an appetite -- all-you-can-eat vegan, Indian-style food. Govinda translates to "protector of the cows" or "pleasing to the senses." Make sure to go upstairs to check out the latest stock of books, incense, oils, clothing, music, instruments, deities and India-related items. Check the temple schedule (next door) for worship times with Krishna.
Parking: Small adjacent lot.
