One of the most delectable gelaterias in the city, Gelato Bar is owned by Gail Silverton, sister of Mozza’s Nancy Silverton, and her fiancé Joel Gutman. The Silvertons’ second homes in the Umbrian city of Panicale, Italy, inspired the artisanal gelatos and sorbettos as well as the piazza-style design of the space. A new flavor is added each week, but selections like pistachio, stracciatella, and dairy-free chocolate gelato, as well as blood orange sorbetto, remain permanent fixtures. There’s also a full espresso bar and breakfast treats including savory croissants and “Three Bears” porridge served until 11 a.m. Gail Silverton owns several nursery schools in the area as well, so it almost goes without saying that the shop is kid friendly. Painted in cheery shades of blue, yellow, bottle green, and melon, Gelato Bar hosts neighborhood children’s parties for occasions like Halloween. For mom and dad, there are free Italian lessons on Thursdays at 2 p.m.
