Though its menu stretches the limits of credulity at times (you can order hash browns and sushi if you so desire), its very healthy and nutritious preparations draw a loyal crowd to the Firehouse. Many of them arrive fresh from a workout at the nearby Gold’s Gym and—perhaps more than any other restaurant in town--the Firehouse caters very particularly to bodybuilders and fitness professionals. The menu includes the sort of detailed protein, carbohydrate and fat information that ordinary diners can’t imagine caring about, much less understanding. As the day progresses, though, the crowd gets a little more casual, a little less muscular (though still very local) and by quitting time the Firehouse is the sort of place you can go to for a mostly guilt-free burger and a beer. Parking can be tough unless you’re lucky enough to snag a metered space. Best to park on Rose and walk a few blocks.
