Electric Lotus

The first clue that this is not your typical Indian restaurant should be the name – not a “Grill” or “Oven” to be found. Indeed, Electric Lotus is super-charged, loud and atmospheric with dim lighting and blaring music – less a traditional tandoori take-out than a rave-inspired lounge. Choose a secluded drape-covered booth or one of the long, low tables with pillow seats, and enjoy the scene; or alternatively, sit at the bar, which is actually a cool place to hang out, and grab a cocktail or one of the Indian beers available. The Indian/Punjabi food is good, perhaps not winning any authenticity awards, but it’s flavorful and spicy enough. Of particular note are the vegetarian dishes and the unbeatable cheese naan.

 TIPS: A good place for romance, go with a date and order one of the multiple “dinners for two” deals: various appetizers, vegetables and entrées for under $40. Finish your night with quiet street-side drinks at Figaro Brasserie.
