About
Whether you're looking to sip mojitos at the bar, devour a hearty meal or dance the night away, this upscale Cuban restaurant with a distinctly California twist has a charming atmosphere as well as quality eats. Start off with an order of mariquitas (thinly sliced green plantain chips served with garlic dipping sauce), camarones empanizados (breaded, deep fried shrimp served with red pepper aoli) or perhaps the house sampler platter, which features an assortment of appetizers including yucca frita, masas de puerco, ham croquettes, tostones rellenos and papas rellenas.
The menu lists a handful of soups and salads, but if you're here for Cuban food, you're here for meat. Try the lechon asado (oven roasted pork marinated in a citrus juice and served with yucca con mojo), masitas de puerco (morsels of marinated pork fried until they're perfectly crispy), costillitas (pork ribs basted with your choice of sweet guava sauce or orange jalapeno sauce), ropa vieja palomilla (thinly sliced top sirloin skirt steak marinated and topped with onions) or the costillas de carnero (rack of lamb garnished with mariquita and finished with a cranberry cabernet reduction). Lighter options include grilled mahi mahi or swordfish, lobster tails sautéed in either a garlic sauce or a creole wine sauce, grilled salmon drizzled with an orange reduction.
If you still have room, the desserts include flan, flan de coco, flan de queso crema, pudin de pan (traditional Cuban bread pudding served with a swirl of guava marmalade), or the house specialty, pasteles de platano con helado (banana, chocolate and walnuts rolled over a tortilla-like pastry dough then deep fried, coated with sugar and cinnamon and served with a scoop of ice cream).
If you're coming in the evening, avoid baseball caps, beanies, jerseys, beach attire or flip flops, as the dress code is strictly enforced.
