This Hawaiian-themed downtown restaurant is a rainbow of merriment. It gets its reputation from its signature frozen rainbow cocktail, a layering of five multi-colored frosty liquors in a tall glass. Not just another touristy joint of questionable authenticity, Aloha Grill brings credible research to its enterprise. The owner travels to the islands a couple of times a year and brings back artwork he commissions for the restaurant. The manager just moved to OC after 12 years on Maui. Perhaps the best endorsement of all: actual Hawaiians come in for a meal at Aloha Grill. The menu uses a lot of seafood to create regional favorites from both sides of the Pacific, with plenty of choices for those who prefer beef, chicken, pork or salad. The bar and second-story patio fill up with seaside revelers during Happy Hour. The dining room hosts live Hawaiian music, reggae and classic rock Fridays through Sunday nights and appetizers are served until 1 AM to satisfy your late-night munchies.
