Lala's Argentine Grill

Since 1996, this neighborhood chops and salad place has had it in spades: tasty food, a nice, pleasant atmosphere, good drinks and great desserts to top it all off. While some prefer the chain-style offerings of another Argentinean, Gaucho Grill, others say the little touches make this one an L.A. find. After polishing off the bread and its garlic dipping sauce, go for the skirt steak with garlic, chicken Milanesa or Melrose salad. And always, always order a side of mashed potatoes. For a lighter meal, the sandwiches are quite good – especially the lomito. Almost all the desserts come with a luscious dulce du leche sauce, so they are appropriately decadent; particularly good are the warm caramel crepes. There is a big alcohol selection, including potent Sangria, ample wine and beers, including some Argentinean brands.

TIPS: Street parking is tough, of course, but be forewarned that the valet here can get slammed. Their smoking policy is lenient when it comes to outdoor smoking so if bothers you, better to eat inside.
