About
Quirky Asian-esque fare served mostly small-plate style in the old Helms Bakery. One of the first to drive Culver City’s renaissance, it’s stylish exposed concrete walls and warmly stained oak tables heralded a new era when Chef Kazuto Matsusaka—former Wolfang Puck protégée and European culinary jet-setter—chose this spot for his first restaurant. One standout is the cool green tea soba noodle salad with warm, freshly grilled shrimp. Also good, the grilled hangar steak in a sauce that smacks of smoky teriyaki, extra heat courtesy of just a hint of wasabi. Unless you’re a committed vegetarian, skip the vegetable curry.

I do like to share, but when it comes to the kaki fry at Beacon, a new Culver City restaurant, I'd just as soon keep all three oysters...
