Fuse Arabic, European and Jewish cuisine and the result is the Moroccan menu. Dinner at Babouch is a complete cultural experience, which begins with your first glimpse of the dark and richly carpeted dining room, decorated in the style of a Moroccan palace. Sip a mint tea or a specialty cocktail from the venue’s Casablanca lounge as you ponder the menu of fixed-price and a la carte dinners. Carnivores can opt for fish, lamb or chicken or be adventurous and order the more exotic rabbit entree. Vegetarians have plenty of choices made with couscous, beans and vegetables. The fixed-price dinners include lentil soup, salad, a phyllo-wrapped chicken pie appetizer called bastilla, tea and a Moroccan pastry. There’s a cool bar and eclectic menu at the Copper Room, Persian fare around the corner at Gypsy Way, local favorite Sandwich Saloon across the street and Baja Fish up the road.

Tips: Plan to eat with your hands, i.e., Moroccan-style. If it’s totally not working for you, request utensils. Also plan for a leisurely cultural experience, not a quickie dinner. Belly dancing and tarot card readings are part of the package on most nights. Call first to make sure if your heart’s set on these parts of the experience.
